Coleman’s will provide referees for the games.
The minimum number of players for a 4 vs. 4 Sand Volleyball game is 3 players. If a team is short the minimum number of players at the start of the game (or before the start of the second game), the game(s) will be considered forfeit(s) and the opposing team will be awarded the win(s).
VOLLEYBALL FORFEIT EXTENSION TIME:
If a team does not possess the needed amount of players to start, the opposing team will receive a win for the first game of the match. Teams will combine players so the first game may be started on time. Teams may continue to finish out the games but the opposing team will still receive the match win.
BEVERAGES AT FIELDS:
Alcoholic beverages are not allowed off of the deck at any time. You are not allowed to bring your own beer or alcohol to Coleman’s. If you do, you will be fined and prosecuted to the full extent of the law!!!
One point will be rewarded for a match win (best of three games). One point will be awarded to the winners of each game. If your team wins two games and loses one game your team will receive two points and the other team will receive one point. We will also keep track of points scored and points scored against for use in case of a tie-breaker situation. Match wins are considered the first method for ranking teams, then game wins, and if we have teams that are still tied in those categories, we will go off of points scored vs. points scored against.
START OF GAME:
Home team gets choice of serve or side. Home and visitor teams will be pre-determined and displayed on the schedule. Teams will rotate sides and serve after the completion of each game.
All games are rally scoring. In the “rally” game, points will be awarded on both the service and service receive side.
Each match will consist of the best of 3 games to 21 points. Play continues until a two point advantage is reached or until a team scores 25 points with a one point advantage. The team that wins two games first shall be declared the winner. Teams may play a third consolation game if a winner has already been declared and time permits. We do not use the 25-point cap rule in the playoffs.
Each team is allowed one (one-minute) time-out per game. No carryovers.
After each side out, players must rotate in order determined at the start of each game. Substitutions can ONLY be made from sideline to serve. The substitute is now the server. All substituting players must be behind the end line.
If a team illegally substitutes a player (not replaced from the pre-determined order into the serve position), that team will lose their serve immediately.
The ball is “in” when it touches the sand of the playing court including the boundary lines.
A ball is “out” when the part of the ball which contacts the sand is completely outside the boundary line, touches any object outside the court, touches the rope, post, net, etc., outside of the sidelines.
The team is entitled to a maximum of three hits (in addition to blocking) for returning the ball. If more are used, the team commits the fault of “four hits”. The hits of the team include not only intentional hits, but also unintentional.
A player may not hit the ball two times consecutively.
The ball may touch any part of the body.
The ball must be hit, not caught and/or thrown.
The ball may touch various parts of the body only if the contact takes place simultaneously.
FAULTS IN PLAYING THE BALL: (SIDE OUT)
Attacking a serve; player setting the ball over the net on a serve from the front row; leaving your feet to block, spike or “over the head tomahawk” a serve over the net from the front row.
Double contact; hits ball twice or ball contacts various parts of body in succession.
Illegal rotation. (Players do not have to rotate positions but still must make substitutions in correct order and into
No “prolonged contact” between the player and the ball, otherwise known as a lift. The contact should continue in one fluid motion and the ball should not come to rest at any time in that motion.
Professional boundaries are league provided, at 59.5′ long x 29.5′ wide.
BALL AT THE NET:
The ball sent to the opponent’s court must go over the net.
The ball may touch the net, INCLUDING the service.
A ball driven into the net may be recovered within the limits of the three hits, except the service.
PLAYER AT THE NET:
A player can break the plane on a spike and a block, as long as you do not interfere with the opponent’s attempt of a returning shot.
FAULTS AT THE NET: (SIDE OUT)
Contact with the net is a fault, even when a player’s momentum causes them to contact the net (excessive net faults will result in that player suspended from the game).
A player may go completely under the net as long as they do not touch the net or interfere with the play.
A player touches the ball or an opponent in the opponent’s space before or during the opponents hit.
When the serving team wins the rally, the player who served before, serves again.
When the receiving team wins the rally, it gains the right to serve. Servers must be rotated in the same order throughout the duration of the game.
No receiving player may leave his or her feet to block a serve.
Blocking is the action of players close to the net trying intercept the ball coming from the opponent’s side.
A block contact is not counted as a team hit, and a team is entitled to three hits to return the ball.
The first hit after the block may be executed by any player, including the one who blocked the ball.
Any excessive attack hit deemed unsportsmanlike by the referee.
General unsportsmanlike conduct towards a teammate, opponent, referee, etc.
Player(s) ejected will be suspended for the current game.
